What is Horimiya Manga?

What is Horimiya Manga?

Horimiya or Hori-san to Miyamura-kun is a Japanese manga series.

Horimiya was written and illustrated by Hiroki Adachi, also known as Hero.

The manga was originally self- published from 2007-2011 and later on it was published by Square Enix  from 2008-2011  in the Gangan Comics. The manga has about 10 volumes. 

Horimiya was adapted as an animated series in 2021.

The show was directed by Masashi Ishihama, written by Takao Yoshioka and the studio was CloverWorks.

Horimiya is a romantic comedy genre based anime and there are about 13 episodes in the series.

Horimiya Characters 

Kyouko Hori

Kyouko Hori

Kyouko Hori is the female protagonist of the anime series Horimiya.

The character has brown hair, golden eyes and is about 163-cm tall. She is currently a student at Katagiri Senior High School and is also called Kyo-chan or Honey-san.

Kyouko Hori has a happy and energetic personality.

She always aces her exams and works hard. However, she has a hidden sadist side which she only shows to her boyfriend, Miyamuri. 

Izumi Miyamura

Izumi Miyamura is the male protagonist of the anime series Horimiya.

The character is black-haired, blue-eyed and is about 169-cm tall. He is currently a student at Katagiri Senior High School and is also called Konoha and Ikkun.

In the beginning, Izumi Miyamura shows a very closed off personality as if he cares about nothing and is always gloomy.

Other students feel that Izumi Miyamura is an otaku who is good in studies yet someone they can’t talk to.

During his time at Junior High, he was constantly bullied. He used to give himself piercings whenever he felt sad.

His experience in Junior High also implied that he contemplated suicide. Later on, Izumi Miyamura made friends and completely changed his personality and also fell in love with Kyouko Hori.

Souta Hori is Kyouko Hori’s younger brother.

The character has gray hair, olive eyes and is 110-cm tall. Izumi Miyamura rescues Souta Hori from a dog and takes him to his home where he meets Kyouku Hori.

Souta Hori constantly wants to hang out with Izumi Miyamura which gives Izumi Miyamura a reason to meet Kyouku Horii.

Tooru Ishikawa

Tooru Ishikawa is a purple-haired, violet-blue-eyed student at Katagiri Senior High School. He has a crush on Kyouku Hori due to which he befriends Izumi Miyamura.

Yuki Yoshikawa

Yuki Yoshikawa

Yuki Yoshikawa is an olive-green-haired, yellow-eyed student at Katagiri Senior High School. She is a close friend of Kyouku Hori.

Horimiya Season 2 Release Date

As of January 2022, there is a possibility that Horimiya won’t return for Season 2. If the series gets renewed it would most probably release in 2023 or 2024.

The series followed the manga in Season 1 so there are no new arcs the writers can follow. 

To keep the story going, they’ll have to think of spin-off that will fit perfectly for the characters.

The plot of Horimiya revolves around two teenagers, Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura.

They both are students at Katagiri Senior High School. Izumi Miyamura is shown as gloomy and introverted in the beginning.

It was due to his horrible experience at Junior High that made him pessimistic and close off. Meanwhile, Kyouku is cheery and popular.

They both are portrayed to have completely opposite personalities.

However, outside school they are completely opposite.

Izumi Miyamura has many piercings and dresses in punk style, while Kyouko Hori dresses decently and takes care of her younger brother.

Later on, their paths cross and they start gaining affectionate feelings for each other and in the end they finally confess their love for each other.

Izumi Miyamura is the protagonist of the series Horimiya.

The character has an average height and a slim figure.

However, he has long lashes and is considered to be attractive.

Izumi Miyamura has a lot of piercings which he did by himself to feel better because of his terrible experiences of bullying in Junior High.

In Senior High, he was considered to be gloomy and introverted.

However, he started making friends and changed his personality which made him confident and eventually started dating Kyouko Hori.

Horimiya Season 2 Summary

Kyouko Hori who is the main character of the anime is a popular high school girl, who also excels in academics and has a family-loving character. However, outside of school she is a different person and her parents are workaholics. Hori acts as a parent for her little brother when her parents are away and the show is quite watchable in Season 1.
