Who is Dabi?
Dabi is a character from the manga and anime series My Hero Academia, created by Kohei Horikoshi. He is one of the series’ major antagonists. Dabi’s quirk is cremation or the ability to emit large fires of blue color.
Because of this, Dabi has been dubbed ‘blueflame’ by Geten. Dabi is a part of the League of Villains, and also fought as part of the League’s Vanguard Action Squad.
Dabi eventually goes on to become a member of the Paranormal Liberation Front, a body formed by the merging of the League of Villains with the Meta Liberation Army. alongside Geten, Dabi now works as the leader of the section titled, ‘Vanguard Action Guerilla Warfare Regiment: Violet.’
Dabi Appearance
Dabi is a slim, tall man in his early twenties. He has black hair that spikes upward at the end and hangs over his eyes, which are a shade of turquoise in color. He has a thick set of eyelashes.
Dabi’s appearance is distinguished by a wide expanse of dark, wrinkled burn scars that cover his face, arms, legs, and much of the rest of his body. These scars are punctured in places by hoops and staples.
Dabi has both his ears pierced and lacks earlobes on both sides of his face. He wears a nose piercing as well. When he initially appeared in the series, he wore a long dark blue coat and a simple grey t-shirt. He had worn a pair of dress shoes.
Upon becoming a member of the Vanguard Action Squad, he begins wearing boots and darker pants, though his coat and shirt remain the same. When he joins the Paranormal Liberation Front as one of the nine lieutenants, he changes his look and starts wearing a white v-neck shirt with stitches on his shoulder pads and in the middle of his jeans.
Apart from this, he also wears a dark coat with a row of three buttons on each flap.
Dabi Personality
Dabi is distant, unemotional, impersonal, and smug by nature. He seems almost unhinged and rather violent but he is prudent and discreet when it comes to fighting and knows when to retreat from a fight, even if just temporarily.
He has an almost loner-wolf persona and trusts people with distrust and prefers to keep them at a distance. He takes pride in his being a “villain” and looks down upon false heroes. Dabi idolizes Stain and the ideas espoused by him. Like Stain, Dabi is of the opinion that a collective of heroes is unneeded when it is within the capacity of a single hero to change the world if they do have the power and capability.
He at one point even reveals that he has no particular loyalty to the League either. Dabi is sadistic and enjoys verbally demeaning and fighting Pro Heroes as he deems undeserving of their power and glory.
He uses such tactics to get a psychological advantage over his opponents while at the same time, gaining himself the upper hand. Some people have thus interpreted Dabi as being a sociopath, though this is a disputed claim primarily because Dabi does have the ability to feel sadness and remorse, as shown by his emotional reaction after Snatch’s death.
Dabi then does feel for those downtrodden in life and lost and alone.
Dabi Abilities & Superpowers
Quirk: Dabi’s quirk is cremation. He has the ability to create fires of large proportions and high destructive ability. The flames he creates are blue in color, earning him the name ‘blueflame’ from Geten.
Dabi is adept at fighting at long-distance ranges as well as an exceptional offensive power. He is an efficient and ruthless fighter and one of the strongest among the members of the League of Villains.
Dabi has adapted his quirk to be able to create a range of diverse attacks at both close and wide range. Dabi can create fireballs along with bursts of fire and generate fire in a manner similar to a flamethrower.
As a form of defense, Dabi can eliminate other people’s attacks through cremation and also build humongous walls of fire to entrap and encircle his opponents. He can also reduce a large band of fighters to ashes in the blink of an eye.
Other abilities: Dabi possesses a high amount of intelligence coupled with a devious nature and callousness. He is skilled at reading people and can understand their motivation, fear, and weakness easily.
This makes him a formidable and challenging person to fight as apart from being physically strong, Dabi is also psychologically astute and not afraid to manipulate people to further his own motives.
He is also cautious and has good perceptive abilities and does not overestimate his own physical capability. That is part of the reason why he converses with his opponents, apart from playing with their minds, he is buying time for his body to recover and cope with the high temperatures that arise because of the hot flames he generates.

- Dabi, which is his superhero alias, means ‘cremation.’
- In the original Japanese series, Dabi is voiced by artist Hiro Shimono, and in the English dub by Jason Liebrecht.
- He made his debut in the manga in chapter 57 and in the anime in episode 31.
- When he was a young child Dabi was unable to control his quirk of being able to cause large fires. As a result, he burned himself in an ‘accident’ when he was small, giving him his signature scars. This same incident caused his tear glands to also be destroyed and, thus, Dabi cannot shed tears.
