Review: WD My Passport X
Here at Sticky Trigger, we can’t get enough of storage devices – we love them! Recently, we’ve reviewed the WD My Passport Wireless, Kingston SSDNOW KC310 Solid State Drive, and the Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB Solid State Drive. When we were asked to try out the WD My Passport X 2TB portable gaming drive made specifically for Xbox One and Xbox 360, we had to get our hands on it.
Sticky Trigger reviews plenty of games, and as such, our Day One Xbox One which came with a 500GB hard drive filled up quick. Hard decisions were made about what games to keep installed on the Xbox One’s internal drive to free up space for future games to review. We also take our Xbox One to friends’ places for regular gaming nights, which can be a real pain considering you have to pack up cords, controllers, games, and the console itself. It really is a lot of fussing about, when all we wanna do is game!
WD has taken the stress of out gaming storage with the newly released WD My Passport X allowing you to Play More, Delete Less – and that’s music to every gamer’s ears!

The Look
WD always pride themselves on presenting external drives that are not only practical and get the job done, but that are also pleasant on the eye. The WD My Passport X is no exception to this rule, presenting a sleek mix of black matte and gloss finish that compliments the Xbox One perfectly.
The unit has the USB connection port, along with an indicator light to show that it’s being powered. No mess and no fuss. Plain and simple, yet every so sleek and compact. The My Passport X was built for durability as well as long term reliability, a given from a WD product.
How it works
The WD My Passport X is extremely simple to use, simply plug it into your console transfer your already installed games across and select the drive for all future installs – it’s as simple as that!
It’s also worth mentioning that the Xbox One’s SATA II internal storage supports 3GBit transfer speeds, which is slower than USB 3.0, meaning that you’ll be getting faster access to your games with the My Passport X.
Depending on how many games you have installed on your Xbox One or Xbox 360 at the time will obviously depend on the time that it will take to transfer all the data over, however with the power of USB 3.0 on your side, it won’t take you long to get back in the battlefield! Once it’s on the My Passport X, accessing your games is a breeze and you no longer have to stress over those pesky ‘Storage Full’ message warnings.
Powered solely by USB bus, there is no need for additional power supply.
Summary
Any Xbox One owner in will appreciate the extra space that the My Passport X offers as storage has always been an issue since the consoles release. The My Passport X in our opinion is an essential companion for the Xbox One. With its compact, sleek styling making it not only palatable to look at, teamed up with its durability for easy gaming data storage, access and accessibility on the go, the My Passport X is a much needed item for Xbox One owners.
