Who is Eijiro Kirishima?

Eijiro Kirishima is a character from the hit Japanese anime series, My Hero Academia, which is based on the manga series by Kohei Horikoshi. Eijiro is a student studying in class 1-A of U.A. High School and training to be a professional hero or a Pro Hero.

Eijiro is also known as the Sturdy Riot: Red Riot because of his red hair and fiery personality. Eijiro’s quirk is hardening.

Eijiro Kirishima Appearance

Eijiro Kirishima has a strong, muscular build and is of average height. He is instantly recognizable by the shock of bright red hair on his head. His hair is always styled with gel into a spike.

Eijiro has red eyes and a scar just above his right one. His features are sharp and he has thin, short eyebrows. His teeth are unusually pointed. Eijiro’s natural hair color is black. He used to have black shoulder-length tresses and short bangs.

He dyed his hair red and changed his hairstyle after passing the entrance exam for U.A. High School. During class hours, Eijiro wears the standard U.A. uniform for male students but opts for wearing bright red trainers instead of the prescribed brown dress shoes.

His hero costume consists of two heavy and thick, deep red shoulders pads, one of which he wears on each of his shoulders. A deep red sash joins his left shoulder pad to the right side of his belt. His belt has the letter “R” in large size and Eijiro’s signature color at the center of it. Eijiro wears black baggy pants with a deep red half-cape hanging down the back of his legs and tied to his waist.

Eijiro’s costume leaves his chest on display. On his face, Eijiro has a black wired guard framing his face and passing over his nose. The corners of this guard resemble sharp, small fangs. He later adds full black sleeves to his costume to save civilians from being injured by his hardening quirk. 

Eijiro Kirishima Personality

Eijiro has a loud and cheerful personality. Similar to Izuku, Eijiro is also hugely inspired by his hero idol, Crimson Riot, and takes after both his name and what he embodies: strong-will and determination.

Eijiro is brave, courageous, and does not hesitate to put himself at risk if it means saving others from danger. He has a humorous side as well and loves to tease and joke around with his friends. Eijiro is extremely taken with the idea of “manliness” and uses terms such as “manly” and “unmanly” to describe what he approves of and disapproves of, respectively.

Things like heroic displays of power as well strength and nobility inspire and move him while cheating and cowardice are traits he despises. Because of his strong resolve and confident, competitive nature, Eijiro is one of the select few who have earned Katsuki’s respect.

Along with a lively and outgoing attitude, Eijiro also has a kind and considerate heart. He is also honest and transparent and has a simple philosophy that he follows, that of being a good hero and helping others.

Once in middle school when he was unable to stop a bully from threatening some other students, Eijiro felt worthless and started doubting his abilities. After watching some old clips of his idol, Crimson Riot, his resolve became renewed and he vowed to become a brave and hardworking hero. Eijiro is of passionate disposition and is always willing to go beyond protocol to come to their aid.

Though seemingly noisy and careless, Eijiro has a strong sense of duty and is critical of himself whenever he fails and as such continuously strives to become better for the sake of himself and others. Eijiro’s biggest dream is to become a legendary Pro Hero like Crimson Riot.

Eijiro’s quirk is an ability known as hardening which makes him capable of making any part of his body as hard and strong as a rock. Eijiro can withstand a great but limited amount of offensive attack and after a while starts struggling to sustain his powers.

Endurance: Eijiro displays physical and mental resilience to danger and attacks from enemies. His hardened body can withstand considerable numbers and kinds of offenses. For example, Eijiro’s body has shown durability against moving bullets, huge metal monsters, and explosions caused by Katsuki. 

Amplified strength: Eijiro’s body gains an exceptional amount of power when he makes use of his quirk. This enables him to exert force as needed, throw and block attacks such as punches, and cut through objects and weapons. 

Eijiro Kirishima Super moves

Red Riot Unbreakable: This is the term used for Eijiro’s state when he unleashes his power to the fullest extent and becomes completely hardened and stone-like. This form turns Eijiro invincible to almost any kind of attack and simultaneously, gives him deadly power and force.

The only downside is that Eijiro can remain in the Red Riot Unbreakable form for only a short amount of time, between 30 to 40 seconds.

Red Gauntlet: This is the name given to the move where Eijiro delivers a single, strong gut-punch to his opponent. The move causes extra damage if delivered by Eijiro in the Red Riot Unbreakable form.

Red Counter:  When in a hardened state, Eijiro uses a technique of close-range offense called Red Counter, where he first pushes off the opponent using his skin and then punches him.

• Horikoshi admits that drawing the supposed scar above Eijiro’s right eye is something that he forgets quite frequently.
• Eijiro is voiced in the Japanese anime series by Toshiki Matsuda and in the English dub by Justin Cook.
• His birthday is on the 16th of October.
• Eijiro’s first name contains the kanji word for “sharp” while his last name contains the kanji word for “to cut.”
• Eijiro’s favorite dish is meat.
• He shares a great deal of similarity with Tetsutetsu including having the same birthday and quirk as him.
• He ranked second during the entrance exam of U.A. High School.
