Who is Tomura Shigaraki?
Tomura Shigaraki is a character appearing in the acclaimed Japanese anime series, My Hero Academia. He is the main antagonist in the series and becomes the head of the League of Villains, after his superior, All For One’s defeat.
Shigaraki aims at eliminating All Might, the world’s greatest hero, and bringing the reign of heroes to an end. He wants to create a new world from scratch with his form of justice at the base. Eventually, he changes his course and begins focusing on annihilating humanity as a whole.
He later becomes the leader of the Paranormal Liberation Front, a legion formed by the merging of the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army.
Tomura Shigaraki Appearance
Shigaraki is an incredibly thin man of tall height. He looks frail and walks with this body bent forward slightly. He has scarred, pale, sickly skin. He has a mole near his dry, uneven lips and a slightly pointy chin.
He has kinky, shoulder-length bluish-grey hair. When younger, he bore a close resemblance to Izuku and has a similar mop of dark hair. His hair color changed when he acquired his quirk. Shigaraki’s body is covered by hands at various locations; these are the hands of his family whom he murdered when he obtained his quirk.
All the hands belong to Shigaraki’s family with the only exception being the pair of hands on his shoulders: they belong to two unknown criminals. The hand on Shigaraki’s face belongs to his father, and it is that hand that Shigaraki treasures the most.
Normally, Shigaraki wears a long-sleeved t-shirt under a long black coat paired with a pair of black pants and red sneakers. His hood is pulled over his face, partially hiding it, and one of the hands is kept in his pocket.
In his villain avatar, Shigaraki adorns a black full-sleeved shirt and black trousers. And of course, there are disembodied hands-only onto several places on his body.
After the arrest of All For One, Shigaraki begins wearing a red jacket and hair also grows longer. He later starts wearing a suit like that of Overhaul, braces on his right hand and leg and his hair becomes white. He was last seen sporting holes in hands like his master, the previous possessor of All for One.
Tomura Shigaraki Personality
Shigaraki is a mentally unstable individual. He switches quickly between being excited, unhinged, and being bloodthirsty and angry. His frail body and wrinkled skin make him look weak and low on energy but in truth, Shigaraki hides great power inside himself.
He also has a disturbing childish side to him and sulks violently wherever his plans go awry and get thwarted by heroes. He is vicious and malevolent and is not concerned about murdering innocents if it means advancing his schemes. Shigaraki has a nervous tic wherein he scratches incessantly at his neck whenever he is tense or angry.
He developed this habit during his abusive childhood at the hands of his father. His pain and suffering in his early days later get destructively projected onto other humans whom he begins to hate for simply existing. Shigaraki, thus, does not value life and is excessively impatient and proud.
However, as the series progresses he learns that to inspire confidence and mobilize fellow villains, he needs to appear more balanced and thus adopt a more silent, calm, yet deadly persona.
Shigaraki takes pride in the League and believes that he can with the help of his followers “reform” society and make it better, although he would completely change his mind and would decide to nullify human existence as a whole.
Despite his murderous and nihilistic tendencies, there are a few people whom Shigaraki holds in regard, like his mentor, All For One, and his second-in-command in the League, Kurogiri.

Bodily Tempering: After undergoing a body modification surgery at the hands of Kyudai Garaki, Shigaraki becomes the possessor of a power greater than One For All though since his surgery was interrupted in between, his power is a little unstable, capable of wearing Shigaraki down if used for long.
